How do I write and format a scene?
Write in a chapter and use headings, bold, italic, lists and undo, then check it all saved.
Before you start
- A practice chapter to write in. See How do I add chapters and scenes?
Steps
Open the chapter from the Manuscript section of the sidebar and click in the page.
Type a line for a heading. Then, with the caret on that line, choose Heading 2 from the toolbar's Paragraph style menu. It shows Body Text for ordinary paragraphs.
Paragraph style, Bold and Italic are at the left of the chapter toolbar. Press Return and write a paragraph. For emphasis, select words and click B or I, or press ⌘B / Ctrl+B and ⌘I / Ctrl+I.
For a list, click the … button (More formatting) on the toolbar and click the bulleted list button. Format ▸ Bulleted List does the same.
Lists, quotes, links and images are under More formatting. Type the list items, pressing Return after each one.
Make a change you don't want, then choose Edit ▸ Undo (⌘Z / Ctrl+Z). Redo is ⇧⌘Z / Ctrl+Shift+Z.
Stop typing for a moment. The status bar says Saved on this computer.
PugWriter saves a moment after you stop typing. Close the chapter's tab with its ×, then open the chapter again from the sidebar.
The reopened chapter keeps its heading, emphasis and list.
Click a screenshot to see it larger, then use the arrow keys to step through them.
Check it worked
- After reopening, the heading, bold, italic and list look exactly as they did.
- Nothing you undid has come back, and nothing you kept is missing.
