How do I find and replace a word in one chapter?

Find and Replace works in the chapter in front of you, and lets you check every match and leave out the ones you want to keep.

Steps

  1. Open the chapter and choose Edit ▸ Find and Replace… (⌥⌘F / Ctrl+Alt+F).

  2. Type what to find in the top box. The bar shows which match you're on, such as 2 of 4, and highlights them in the text.

  3. Type the replacement in the second box.

  4. To change matches one at a time, use the buttons in the second row: Replace & Find Next, or Skip & Find Next to leave one alone. Hover over a button to see its name.

  5. To change several at once, press Replace All…, the last button in the second row (⌘↩ / Ctrl+Enter).

Replace All… shows every change before it happens.
  6. A preview lists every match in its sentence. Untick any you want to keep as they are.

Untick a match to leave it unchanged.
  7. Press Replace Selected.

  8. Changed your mind? Press ⌘Z / Ctrl+Z to undo.

Click a screenshot to see it larger, then use the arrow keys to step through them.
