1. Who We Are

PugWriter is owned and operated by WriteWith, LLC("WriteWith," "we," "our," or "us"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information when you use the PugWriter websites, web application, desktop application, and related services (collectively, the "Service").

For users in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, WriteWith is the controller of personal data described in this policy.

2. Information We Collect

• Account information: your name, email address, authentication records, preferences, and account settings.
• Writing content: projects, manuscripts, outlines, characters, notes, interview responses, and other material you choose to store or process.
• Connected-service data: information needed to use an integration you authorize, such as GitHub. The information depends on the integration and your permissions.
• Transaction information: subscription tier, billing status, payment identifiers, and transaction history. Payment card details are processed by our payment provider and are not stored directly by WriteWith.
• Technical and usage data: device and browser type, IP address, operating system, service logs, feature interactions, crash information, and approximate location derived from an IP address.
• Communications: messages and attachments you send to support, security, or other WriteWith addresses.

3. How We Use Information

• Provide, secure, maintain, and troubleshoot the Service
• Authenticate users and synchronize authorized devices
• Process subscriptions and maintain billing records
• Deliver features you request, including AI-assisted features
• Respond to support, privacy, and security inquiries
• Analyze performance and improve product reliability
• Prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms
• Comply with legal obligations and enforce our rights

4. AI-Assisted Features

When you choose to use an AI-assisted feature, PugWriter sends the instructions and portions of content needed to fulfill your request to the selected AI provider. Providers may include OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or another provider identified in the Service. Do not submit information to an AI feature that you do not want processed by that provider.

WriteWith does not sell your writing and does not use it to train a WriteWith-owned general-purpose AI model. Third-party providers process data under their applicable terms, privacy notices, and our arrangements with them.

5. How We Disclose Information

We do not sell your personal information or writing content. We may disclose information:

• To vendors that provide hosting, databases, authentication, email delivery, payments, customer support, security, and AI processing, only as needed to provide their services
• To a connected service when you direct us to use that integration
• With your consent or at your direction
• To comply with law, legal process, or lawful government requests
• To protect users, WriteWith, or others from fraud, abuse, or security threats
• In connection with a merger, financing, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate protections

6. Legal Bases for Processing

Where data-protection law requires a legal basis, we process personal data as necessary to perform our contract with you, for our legitimate interests in operating and securing the Service, with your consent when requested, and to comply with legal obligations. You may withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing that occurred before withdrawal.

7. Data Retention

We retain account information and stored content while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward to allow recovery, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, and meet legal obligations. Retention periods vary by data type. Billing and tax records may be retained as required by law, and limited copies may remain in backups until those backups are overwritten. We delete or de-identify information when it is no longer reasonably needed.

8. Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and service monitoring. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Report suspected vulnerabilities to security@writewith.dev.

9. Cookies and Local Storage

PugWriter currently uses cookies and similar local storage that are necessary to authenticate users, protect accounts, remember interface preferences, and operate requested features. We do not currently use third-party advertising cookies or cross-site behavioral tracking. Because these technologies are necessary or preference-based, the public site does not display a nonessential cookie-consent banner. If we introduce nonessential analytics or advertising technologies, we will update this policy and provide consent controls where required.

10. International Data Transfers

WriteWith is based in the United States. If you access the Service from another country, your information may be processed in the United States and other countries where our providers operate. We use legally recognized transfer mechanisms where required.

11. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a portable copy of your personal information, and to appeal a decision about a request. You may also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.

To make a request, email support@pugwriter.com. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. Authorized agents may submit requests where permitted by law.

12. Children's Privacy

PugWriter is a general-audience service and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information without appropriate authorization, contact us so we can investigate and delete it where required.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the Service or applicable law changes. We will post the revised policy with a new effective date and provide additional notice when legally required.
