How do I… · Codex and research

How do I add a character or a place to the Codex?

The Codex keeps one entry for each character, place, thing, event or group in your book, with a profile you can fill in as you go.

Before you start

  • A project to work in. To practise, use the sample project or a copy.

Steps

  1. In the sidebar, find the Codex section and click + New item.

+ New item sits at the top of the Codex section.
  2. Under Choose item category..., click Place (or Character, Thing, Event and so on).

Pick what kind of entry you're adding.
  3. For a character, you're also asked to pick a template, such as Character or Minor Character. Pick one.

  4. Type the name and press OK (or Return). The new entry opens on its Profile tab.

  5. Click + One-line summary under the name and write a sentence about it.

  6. Fill in any fields you like, such as Occupation for a character. Changes save as you type.

The Profile tab, with a summary and a few fields filled in.
  7. Your new entry is listed in the sidebar under its category, for example Places or Characters.

Click a screenshot to see it larger, then use the arrow keys to step through them.
