How do I reorder chapters and scenes?
Drag chapters and scenes into a new order in the sidebar, or move one with Move to…, and jump between them.
Before you start
- To practise, use a sample or a copy of your project.
Steps
In the Manuscript section of the sidebar, point at the chapter or scene you want to move. A handle of six dots shows at the right of its row.
Drag by the six-dot handle. Drag the handle up or down. A line shows where the row will land. Let go there.
Here Scene 2 is being moved above Scene 1. To move a chapter to another part of the book without dragging, right-click it and choose Move to…, then pick where it should go.
Move to… lists Front Matter, Body, Back Matter and the book's parts. Click a chapter or scene in the sidebar to open it. Each one opens in its own tab, so you can click between tabs.
To jump by name, press ⌘P / Ctrl+P, type part of the title and press Enter.
Click a screenshot to see it larger, then use the arrow keys to step through them.
Check it worked
- The sidebar shows the new order, and the chapter numbers follow it.
- Open each moved chapter or scene and check its text is complete.
