How do I add chapters and scenes?
Add a chapter where you want it in the book, and split a chapter into scenes you can move around.
Before you start
- A project open in PugWriter. To practise, use a sample or a copy of your project.
Steps
In the Manuscript section of the sidebar, point at the chapter the new one should follow and click the + that appears on its row.
Choose Chapter.
The + on a chapter's row adds a chapter after it, a scene inside it, or a note. Type the chapter's title and click OK. The new chapter opens in a tab, ready to write in.
You can also choose Edit ▸ Insert ▸ Chapter… to get the same box. To give a chapter scenes, click the + on its row and choose Scene.
If the chapter already has text, PugWriter offers to move it into a scene of its own. Name the scenes if you like, then click Move text & add scene.
Untick Also add a new blank scene if you only want the existing text moved. The scenes appear nested under the chapter. Click one to open it.
Scenes sit under their chapter in the sidebar. To rename a chapter or scene, right-click it and choose Rename….
Click a screenshot to see it larger, then use the arrow keys to step through them.
Check it worked
- Open the first scene and check the chapter's earlier text is all there.
- The chapter numbers in the sidebar update to match the new order.
