How do I… · Feedback and help

How do I flag a passage to fix later?

A flag highlights a passage that needs attention, such as continuity, revision or a fact to check, with an optional note; flags show only in the app.

Steps

  1. Select the passage.

  2. In the chapter toolbar, press More formatting (the ··· button), then the paragraph button.

  3. Under Flag, choose a kind: Continuity Flag, Revision Flag, Fact-Check Flag, Voice & Tone Flag or Custom Flag.

Flags are at the bottom of the paragraph menu.
  4. The passage is shaded and a small form opens. Click in the Why this passage is flagged box and type a note if you like, then press Done.

Click in the note box before you type.
  5. To see every flag, open the Comments, Bookmarks & Flags panel in the Inspector and its Flags tab. Filter by kind or by open and dismissed flags.

Each flag shows who left it, its kind, its note and its chapter.
  6. Click a flag to open its chapter at the passage. When you've dealt with it, use the flag's Dismiss flag button in the list (hover over the flag to find it).

Click a screenshot to see it larger, then use the arrow keys to step through them.

Check it worked

  • After revising the passage, find the flag again from the Flags tab.
  • Export a sample and check flags don't appear in it.
