How do I control what AI sees and what it costs?

Turn single AI features on or off, keep AI out of one book, set a spending budget and read exactly what was sent and what it cost.

Before you start

  • AI assistance switched on in App Settings ▸ AI.

Steps

  1. In App Settings ▸ AI, click AI features to open the list. Each feature has its own switch and model, so you can turn off any you don't want.

Every AI feature has its own switch.
  2. Under Transcripts, decide how much of each request is kept. Everything sent is kept unless you tick Trim prompts in new transcripts to the first 500 characters.

Transcripts show exactly what the model saw.
  3. To keep AI out of one book, click the gear, choose Project Settings, open its AI tab and untick Enable AI features. Your keys are not affected.

This switch covers only the open book.
  4. Under AI spend budget, fill in a Monthly AI budget ($) or a Daily AI budget ($). Tick Enforce to stop paid requests once a budget is reached. Without it, you only get notices at 80% and 100%.

The figures are estimates. Your provider's dashboard is the real record.
  5. Under Automatic AI actions, check the background passes. Each one is off until you turn it on, and all of them stop while a budget is over.

  6. Click the AI icon in the activity bar. USAGE shows tokens in and out and the estimated cost, and TRANSCRIPTS lists every request.

Usage and Transcripts cover this book.
  7. Click a transcript to read exactly what was sent and what came back. For example, a proofread sends your selection plus the chapter it is in, so the model can follow your voice.

Click a screenshot to see it larger, then use the arrow keys to step through them.

Check it worked

  • After an AI request, its row appears under TRANSCRIPTS and the Today figures go up.
  • With Enable AI features unticked, that book shows no AI actions while other books still do.
